Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
Syncite.net is a free research tool for exploring neuroscience literature. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What we collect
- Email address — only if you sign up or sign in. We use Supabase to send you a one-time magic link. We do not use your email for marketing without your explicit consent.
- Vault and followed authors — papers you save and authors you follow are stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. If you are signed in, this data is also stored on our Supabase database so it can sync across your devices.
- No tracking or analytics — we do not use Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or any third-party analytics at this time.
How we use your data
- Your email is used solely to send you a sign-in link via Supabase.
- Your vault and followed authors are used to provide the core syncing functionality of the app.
- We do not sell, share, or trade your data with any third parties.
Third-party services
- Supabase (privacy policy) — used for authentication (magic link sign-in) and cloud sync of vault data. Supabase stores data on servers in the EU by default.
- OpenAlex (openalex.org) — all paper and author metadata is fetched directly from the OpenAlex API. We send search queries to their servers when you browse or search. No personal data is sent.
- Google Fonts — we load the Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts from Google's CDN. This causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers. See Google's privacy policy.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's localStorage to store your vault, followed authors, and preferences locally on your device. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere unless you sign in.
If you sign in, Supabase will set a session cookie to keep you authenticated. This cookie is necessary for the sign-in functionality to work.
Data retention
Local data (localStorage) stays on your device until you clear your browser data. If you have a Syncite account, your cloud data is retained until you request deletion.
Your rights
- You can delete all local data by clearing your browser's localStorage (browser settings → clear site data).
- To request deletion of your account and associated cloud data, email us at [email protected].
- If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your data under GDPR.
